Start with funds that do similar jobs

Portzo helps you compare pension funds by showing information such as fund category, provider, risk rating, performance periods and asset mix where available. The most useful comparisons are usually between funds that are trying to do a similar job.

For example, comparing a cautious fund with a high-equity global growth fund may not tell you much unless you understand that they are built for different levels of risk. A like-for-like comparison is usually more helpful.

Use Portzo to look at several pieces of information together. A fund with a strong return may also have higher volatility. A steadier fund may have lower growth potential. The right question is not simply which fund performed best, but what risk was taken and whether the fund matches its role.

A simple comparison flow

  • Search for the fund or provider.
  • Check the category and objective.
  • Compare risk ratings and asset mix.
  • Review performance over several periods.
  • Read the provider factsheet for official details.

Portzo does not tell you which fund to choose. The information is educational only.
